Civil War papers, 1858-1863.

The papers include 15 letters, 1862-63, to his sister, Helen A. Buck, and his mother, Amanda (Mrs. Allen) Buck; his diary for 1862 showing the damage suffered from "a ball from a rebel rifle"; a holograph copy of the damaged diary; and a bound typescript copy of his letters, with excerpts from his diary and related material, compiled by Charles Y. Dixon. Also included is a letter to Buck from Horace Greeley, Dec. 14, 1858, and a folder of ana. The letters and diary are entirely concerned with his experiences and observations while serving with the Union Army.
